Server Consolidation and Virtualization Project

A Canadian Government Department with over 4,500 employees had selected TeraMach to develop a server consolidation and virtualization strategy.

TeraMach developed a successful server consolidation and virtualization strategy, which allowed the client to consolidate over 200 Microsoft Windows and UNIX servers using VMware and other server virtualization technologies. TeraMach collected server hardware and performance information and combined this with application requirements (such as data availability, level of protection, performance and growth) collected through interviews.  It then carried out an analysis that combined all the information to determine the capacity, connectivity, performance/throughput, availability and reliability of the server infrastructure.

TeraMach then developed a consolidated server architecture, including computing platform and implementation methodology for 30 servers using VMware and the current SAN environment.

The Result:

This consolidation project is the first step in establishing an IT shared services infrastructure.
