The amount of corporate information requiring protection has been growing exponentially.  Downtime in lost or unavailable data and applications is no longer affordable. Together with the increasing demand on restore and discovery of backup data as well as introduction of compliance regulations, the need for Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) -- aligning the business value of information with the most appropriate and cost effective IT infrastructure from the time information is conceived through its final disposition -- has become utmost important.

TeraMach has tremendous expertise and experience in designing and deploying enterprise-wide backup and recovery solutions on SUN, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft, Linux and Novell platforms with best-in-class backup solutions. With our vast ILM experience, TeraMach helps organizations gain an in-depth understanding of their data.  The result of the study will provide customers with a comprehensive information management strategy for the future.

Benefits

  • Simplify the backup and restore polices and management
  • Reduce backup windows and restore time to provide better disaster recovery
  • Eliminate full and incremental backups by moving unchanging data to the lower cost storage pool
  • Improve availability and service level on data and applications
  • Reduce storage and backup cost through automated policies to migrate data across tiered storage infrastructure
  • Establish corporate standards for architecture and technologies

TeraMach Backup and Archival Solutions

TeraMach’s solutions combine best-in-class technologies and professional services to help customers develop virtualization strategy for both infrastructure and applications:

Backup and Recovery - The amount of corporate information requiring protection has been growing exponentially.  Downtime in lost or unavailable data and applications is no longer affordable. TeraMach has tremendous expertise and experience in designing and deploying enterprise-wide backup and recovery solutions on heterogeneous environment using Symantec, IBM, HP, CommVault, Legato and other industry leading technologies.

Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) - HSM is the key part of Information Life Cycle (ILM).   It migrates valuable on-line date from expensive disks to low cost near-line containers which can be made up of SATA disks, tape or optical. TeraMach can assist customers design and implement HSM solutions using industry-leading technologies from SUN, EMC, Quantum, HDS and others.

Data Profiling and Classification - The recent explosion of data growth has caused businesses to acquire expensive disk arrays to house data.  This is done in order to ensure that the most critical data has the maximum availability and performance.  This practice results in 90% of data that provides no recognizable business value consuming high priced storage devices, taking away space and lowering performance on the mission critical information.  TeraMach’s data classification service helps organizations gain a better insight into their data and allow them to map it to their business requirements.  This knowledge will allow companies to decrease the storage TCO while increasing the ROI.

Archive and Preservation Design and Implementation - With the explosive growth on unstructured data such as file and print as well as email and users’ shared data, customers have been looking for ways to reduce cost and control the data. TeraMach has developed cost effective solutions to address this need to ensure that organizations are managing this growth and maintain control of their IT.

Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape (Disk Staging) - Performance and ease of management have become the key factors when determining backup technologies. Disk-to-Disk-Tape solutions such as Disk Staging, Virtual Tape Library and Tape Caching have significantly improved backup and restore in these areas. With our professional services team, TeraMach helps our customers select and deploy solutions on Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape using Symantec, IBM TSM, HDS and other industry leading technologies.

Data De-Duplication - Data De-duplication can significantly reduce the cost of keeping backup on disks by providing single instance store on a block level. TeraMach has developed multiple Data De-duplication solutions, which bundled with Virtual Tape Library (VTL) using Diligent, FalconStor or EMC, will not only reduce cost and improve performance, but can also be easily integrated for disaster recovery.

Our Experience

TeraMach helped an enterprise federal government department to establish a tiered storage infrastructure consisting of three tiers of storage using HP and HDS enterprise and workgroup storage. The objective of tiered storage is to place storage on and within the appropriate subsystem to maintain or enhance current performance levels. With the tiered storage, the department will leverage different disk technologies to reduce cost of disk capacity. In addition, the department can implement HSM to manage and archive different types of data including email and user data.

TeraMach implemented an enterprise backup solution based on the HP OpenView Data Protector software to an International Security Agency in Montreal.  The solution was optimized to ensure that all the backups can be performed online.  Upon completion of the implementation, knowledge transfer on administrating the solution was performed and disaster recovery processes were specified.

TeraMach implemented an archival solution using Symantec Enterprise Vault to address a federal government department’s challenge surrounding the exponential growth of its e-mail and the side effects it was having on the file systems (through the proliferation of PST files). The solution was designed for a MS Exchange environment consisting of approximately 1,200 e-mail users utilizing 200GB of primary online storage and an estimated 60 to 100GB of PST storage.
